Knowledge Base

Everything you need to know about SPT's PVA technology, environmental impact, and industrial applications.

General & Technology

What is SPT’s PVA sponge technology?

SPT utilizes a world-first continuous pva-foaming production line to create high-performance, biodegradable polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) sponge cores. Unlike traditional materials, our PVA is a bacteria-degradable vinyl polymer specifically engineered for hygiene and medical applications.

How is this different from regular cotton or pulp cores?

Traditional material often rely on solid plastics, non-degradable components, and wood pulp which contribute to landfill waste. SPT’s PVA sponge is ultra-thin, offers significantly higher absorption, and is designed to dissolve completely in hot water.

Is this technology patented?

Yes, we have filed PCT patents for both our unique continuous foaming process and our specific material compositions. This protects our world-first "coil" technology that allows for mass production of sponge sheets.

What does "continuous pva foaming" mean?

Instead of batch processing, our technology allows for the continuous creation of PVA sponge in long rolls or "coils". The process involves dissolving PVA, chemical modification, pva foaming, curing, and drying to ensure consistent quality and performance.

Performance & Absorption

How absorbent are SPT’s PVAsol sponge?

Our PVAsol sponge technology achieves ≥15× water absorption and ≥300% retention. This ensures that the material not only takes in liquid quickly but holds it securely under pressure.

How thin are the pads made with this technology?

The continuous PVA sponge coil technology is designed specifically for "ultra-thin" hygiene products. This allows manufacturers to create slim, discreet pads without sacrificing high-capacity absorption.

Is the material soft enough for sensitive skin?

Yes, our sponge is engineered for an ultra-soft feel with a Shore A hardness of 5–20. This makes it ideal for intimate hygiene products where comfort and skin-friendliness are top priorities.

Does the core maintain its shape when wet?

Our material is designed to be high-performance, maintaining structural integrity during use while providing better comfort than traditional bulky pulp-based material.

Sustainability & Environment

Is the material truly biodegradable?

Yes, SPT’s PVA technology is biodegradable and can be degraded by bacteria. It is designed to leave no persistent microplastics behind, making it a cleaner alternative to standard plastic-based pads.

Why is this better than "plastic-free" or "organic cotton" alternatives?

Many "plastic-free" pads still end up in landfills where they take years to break down. Our technology offers a "dissolve-and-dispose" solution that removes solid waste from the equation entirely.

Does it meet international environmental standards?

Our materials are designed against ISO, ASTM, OECD, and various regional standards (GB/BIS) for biodegradability and environmental safety. We are actively pursuing further certifications.

What is the impact on "People, Drainage & Planet"?

Our goal is to protect all three by providing a comfortable product for people, a flushable solution that won't clog drainage, and a biodegradable material that doesn't harm the planet.

Disposal & Dissolvability

How do I dispose of a pad using SPT technology?

The recommended "ritual" is to place the used pad in hot water (75°C - 85°C). The pad will dissolve into a clear liquid within minutes, which can then be safely flushed or disposed of.

What temperature water is needed to dissolve it?

The material is specifically engineered to be hot-water dissolvable, typically requiring temperatures around 75°C to 85°C. This prevents the pad from dissolving prematurely during regular use or in standard cold-water environments.

Is it safe to flush the dissolved liquid?

Yes, once dissolved, the liquid is safe for plumbing and does not leave behind solid waste or microplastics that could clog pipes or damage ecosystems.

What happens if I don't have access to hot water?

While hot water is the primary method for rapid disposal, the material remains biodegradable and will break down over time in appropriate conditions, leaving less of an environmental footprint than traditional plastic components.

Health & Safety

Is PVA safe for skin contact?

Absolutely. Our material is tested for biocompatibility and microbial safety, ensuring it meets strict sanitary standards for feminine hygiene and medical use.

Are there harmful chemicals in the sponge?

The process involves PVA (a safe vinyl polymer) and chemical modifications that result in a stable, non-toxic product designed for human-centric hygiene.

Is the material bacteria-resistant?

Yes, our PVA technology is engineered to be bacteria-degradable but remains hygienically safe during its shelf-life and usage period, meeting ISO/GB standards for microbial safety.

Has this been tested for medical applications?

Yes, the technology is designed to meet standards for medical dressings and swabs, including tests for re-wet, absorption, and biocompatibility.

Products & Applications

What types of products can use SPT technology?

Our technology is versatile and engineered for diverse sectors: (1) Feminine Hygiene for dissolvable pads/liners. (2) Baby & Adult Care for high-capacity diaper layers. (3) Advanced Wound Care for PU/PVA medical dressings and surgical swabs. (4) Cosmetic & Beauty for ultra-soft facial sponges. (5) Industrial OEM for specialized filtration and absorbent roll goods.

What sizes are available for sanitary pad cores?

We offer absorbent cores in Sizes 1 through 5, covering everything from daily liners to extra-overnight pads with various lengths and widths.

Can the material be used for medical wound care?

Yes, our PVA sponge is excellent for medical dressings and swabs due to its high absorption and soft, non-abrasive texture.

Do you offer finished products or just raw materials?

We primarily provide PVA sponge sheet coils (roll goods) and custom absorbent solutions for OEMs and brands to integrate into their own product lines.
